Trimming your wick to 1/8" - 1/4" before each burn is essential to achieve a stable and safe flame. 

During the burn of a candle, carbon builds up on the wick. If you continue to light the wicks without trimming, the flames will get bigger, produce more black soot, and burn faster. 

Using a candle snuffer to extinguish your candles can prevent debris from falling into the wax pool to ensure clean burns.
